Download
The current version is 1.6. The software is available by anonymous ftp
from sourceforge. Go to the
download page and choose a mirror near you.
It also requires some
or all of the software and data described in the System Requirements
section.
System Requirements:
- Unix. Visky has run on Solaris 2.6 and various Linux systems.
- Tcl/Tk version 8.2 or later, available from
tcl.activestate.com.
Tcl is part of most Linux distributions. To find out if it is present,
enter tclsh on the command line. A new prompt should appear. Enter
set tcl_version to see which version is running. If tclsh is absent
or out of date, it must be installed.
- Tkgeomap version 1.6 or later, available from
http://tkgeomap.sourceforge.net.
- Visky1.6, the scripts in this directory.
- Map data, e.g. coastlines, political boundaries, cities, etc. There are
several sets to choose from described on the
Map data page.
- Data sets as needed for the various packages.
The radar package also requires the
TclRadar extensions.
Installation notes:
Once Tcl/Tk and Tkgeomap are installed, visky can be run in the directory
where it has been extracted.
If desired, the script install.sh will put the visky executables and
libraries into the Tcl/Tk installation tree. This will create a multi-user
installation.
By default, Tcl/Tk and Tkgeomap install in /usr/local. Sometimes it is
necessary to install them in separate directories. For example, Tcl/Tk
might be in /usr/local, but the user installing Tkgeomap does not have root
access. Then the user must install Tkgeomap in an accessible directory
(e.g. $HOME/local), as specified with the --prefix option to the
configure script. (See the INSTALL document in the Tkgeomap distribution
for details on configure.) If Tkgeomap is installed in a directory separate
from the tcl installation, there should be a file in the users home directory
called .wishrc that contains the line: lappend auto_path dir/lib where
dir is the directory given for the prefix configure option. Note the
lib suffix. This command tells the Tcl interpreter where to find
libraries.
The .wishrc entry is NOT needed with the default (/usr/local) Tkgeomap
installation.
